  1. Planting Fig Trees
  2. Spacing and Soil
  3. Fig Tree Maintenance

👉Planting Fig Trees

  1. When to Plant
  2. Selecting a Planting Site

➡️When to Plant

  • Plant figs in spring as soon as the soil is workable.
  • Alternatively, you can wait and plant them later in fall.

➡️Selecting a Planting Site

  • Choose a full sun location sheltered from prevailing breezes or wind.
  • Work well-rotted compost or manure into the soil.
  • Add a cupful of all-purpose fertilizer to the bottom of the planting hole.

👉Spacing and Soil

  • Space fig trees at least 15 to 20 feet apart.
  • For bushy, lower-growing trees, plant them with 10 feet between each.
  • Use loamy, fertile, and well-drained soil with a pH balance of around 6.0 to 6.5.
  • Avoid clay-heavy soil by adding plenty of organic material before planting.

👉Fig Tree Maintenance

  1. Pruning
  2. Feeding

➡️Pruning

  • Newly planted fig trees should be pruned back by about half.
  • This encourages strong root establishment.
  • Figs may not bear fruit until the second or third year, so early pruning provides a head start.
  • After establishment, prune in late winter before the tree comes out of dormancy.

➡️Feeding

  • Feed your fig tree with one pound of balanced fertilizer per year of the tree’s age or per each foot of growth.

Remember, fig trees are not only delicious but also rewarding to grow. Enjoy your homegrown figs! 🌿🌞
