• Peonies thrive best when planted in autumn, before the first hard frost. While spring planting is possible, these plants tend to grow more slowly and may not bloom for a year or two.
• Choose a location that receives six to eight hours of sunlight each day. If full sunlight isn’t available, peonies can still grow in areas with less light, but their growth and bloom may be reduced.
• Peonies grow best in USDA Hardiness Zones 3 through 8, which correspond to minimum winter temperatures of -40°F to +15°F (-40°C to -9.4°C)1. If you’re in Zone 8 or higher, consider providing afternoon shade and morning sunlight for optimal growth.

• Space peonies about three feet apart to allow for healthy growth. 
• Clear weeds around them to promote air circulation and prevent fungal infections.

• Peonies come in two varieties: herbaceous peonies and tree peonies.
• Herbaceous peonies are typically sold as root clumps and grow into herb-like, green-stemmed flowers.

➡️Planting Depth:

• Dig a hole that is 12 inches deep in rich, well-draining soil.
• For herbaceous peonies, place a clump of peony tubers in the hole with the long roots pointed downward and the buds no more than 2 inches from the surface.
• For tree peonies, plant each with the ridged bulge on the rootstock 4 to 6 inches below the surface.
